The newly crowned Nigerian Women’s Football League (NWFL) champions, Delta Queens are now swimming in millions, within minutes of winning the league.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori made the celebrations even more glamorous when he splashed out the some of N10 to the team just after they beat Bayalsa Queens 2-1 to claim the crown.

The new champions initially endured 0-1 deficit in the first half, but achieved victory the hard way after scoring  two late goals left goals to send the crowd into a state of fiesta as it dawned on the homers that the women league champions medal was returning to Delta State after 11 years.

Led by the First Lady of Delta State, Chief Mrs Tobore Oborevwori who was the first recipient of the league trophy, the team headed to the residence of the Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori straight from the stadium for trophy presentation.

The Governor, who also had the pleasure of having the immediate past Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa around, was so happy, receiving his first piece of silverware after just two weeks in office.

The number one man in the state didn’t waste time announcing another cash reward of N10 Million for the team. That makes it a total of N20 Million for the ladies within minutes as they had earlier claimed the N10 Millon at stake for emerging as winners of the league.

Delta Queens will represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League beginning from the WAFU qualifying tournament in August.
