Gateway United are 2023 Ogun FA cup champions after a 1-0 win over Beyond Limits Academy on Thursday.
The first half of the final game at the Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode was a keenly contested one without a goal.
Omolaoye Abiodun’s 57th-minute header separated both sides after 90 minutes.
Gateway United had won its quarter-final and semi-final games on penalties ahead of the final clash with the Ikenne-based Beyond Limits.
It edged both Imperial FC and 2022 Champions, Ijebu United on penalties in the quarter-final and semi-final respectively.
The win ensured that the Abeokuta-based side reclaimed the Ogun State FA Cup it last won in 2021 after crashing out in the semi-final of the 2022 edition to Remo Stars.
It was a back-to-back final defeat for Ikenne-based sides after Remo Stars lost on penalties to Ijebu United in the 2022 final.
Beyond Limits Academy joined its main team (Remo Stars FC) in losing consecutive finals.
Both finalists will represent Ogun State at the national finals of the Federation Cup.
