All roads leads to CAN as Gabon U17 national team, also known as the Panthers, is gearing up to take on the best of Central Africa in the Uniffac tournament. With their sights set on qualifying for the U17 Africa Cup of Nations, the team is more determined than ever to make their mark on the continental stage.

According to coach Jean Joseph Ngoma, the team has been working tirelessly to prepare for the tournament. “Each match is an opportunity to learn and improve,” he said during a pre-match press conference. “We have worked hard to get here. When you come to such a competition, the goal is to win it, of course.”

Team captain Ghanga Ghanga echoed the coach’s sentiments, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and motivation. “We have come to snatch the qualification,” he declared. “We will give our best on the field and reproduce what the coach has taught us during training. We will fight to qualify for the continental phase.”

Coach Ngoma also highlighted the importance of the tournament for the development of local championships. “In Europe, when you reach the age of 17, you play in the first division and become a good D1 player,” he noted. “This tournament will give us the necessary indications for the rest of our competitions. Upon our return, we will make reports to our federation for the players who will stand out and who can be retained for the first division in the country.”

The Gabon U17 Panthers will face off against their counterparts from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) this Sunday, February 16, 2025.
