Napoli have confirmed that Cameroon international Franck Zambo Anguissa has suffered a high-grade muscle lesion, ruling him out for several months and effectively ending his hopes of featuring at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The Serie A champions announced the diagnosis on Wednesday morning after the midfielder underwent medical scans following discomfort felt during training earlier in the week.

“Anguissa underwent instrumental tests that revealed a high-grade lesion to the left thigh flexor. His recovery time will be evaluated in the coming weeks,” read a club statement.

The news comes as a major setback for both Napoli and Cameroon, who had counted on the 28-year-old’s leadership and experience heading into the continental showpiece in December.

Anguissa has been one of Napoli’s most consistent performers this season, featuring in both Serie A and the UEFA Champions League, while also recently being crowned Serie A Player of the Month for October.

His absence adds to Napoli’s growing injury list, with Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku already sidelined — a worrying situation for coach Walter Mazzarri as the Italian side battles on multiple fronts.

For Cameroon, the loss of their midfield engine is equally alarming. Anguissa’s absence leaves coach Marc Brys with a major tactical void to fill just weeks before the Indomitable Lions begin their AFCON campaign.
