Indomitable Lions of Cameroon midfielder Yvan Latour Neyou Noupa has expressed his desire to play for his country at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco and the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament to be held in USA, Canada and Mexico.
The 27-year-old CD Leganes playmaker told Onze mondial in a recent interview that he will be extremely happy if that dream is realized.
“The 2025 AFCON and the 2026 FIFA World Cup? Yes, I think the new coach will take time to speak with some of the senior members of the national team to prepare for the future. It makes me dream and increases my willingness,” Neyou started.
The little magician who made his debut under Antonio Conceicao sometime in 2021 has only won eight caps for his country though he made the cut for AFCON 2021 and 2023.
He dreams of another chance though knowing the decision doesn’t depend on him especially with the competition in the position.
“I don’t know if I will be selected, but I would love to feature in these big competitions. If I happen to play, I will be the happiest person. If not, know that I failed in my mission.”
In terms of game time, Neyou has featured in 31 games in the second tier of Spanish football this season – making him one of the most regular Cameroonian at club level this term all be it with only one goal to show for.
The former Saint Etienne and Auxerre midfielder is thus a serious option for selection ahead of Cameroon’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier matches against Cape Verde Island and Angola in June and beyond.
