The communications department of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced its legal department is investigating president Samuel Eto’o Fils of the Cameroon football federation (FECAFOOT) following reports from stakeholders which cites breach of statutes of up to three football running organizations.<\/p>\n

A CAF release on their official website on Tuesday announced it is investigating what they qualify as ‘serious accusations’ from stakeholders but insisted it will make no further comments on the matter at the moment.<\/p>\n

“CAF has received written statements from several Cameroonian football stakeholders to look into and investigate certain alleged improper conduct by Mr. Samuel Eto\u2019o who is President of the F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Camerounaise de Football (\u201cFECAFOOT\u201d).<\/p>\n

CAF is looking into these requests based on and in accordance with the CAF Statutes and Regulations. Whilst the allegations are prima facie serious, Mr. Samuel Eto\u2019o is presumed to be innocent until an appropriate judicial body concludes otherwise.<\/p>\n

CAF will make no further announcement while the investigations are ongoing and will only make public statements when the proceedings have come to an end,” the CAF statement read.<\/p>\n

Eto’o is said to have breached the statutes of FECAFOOT by signing a 200 Millions FCFA per year contract as brand ambassador of 1XBet earlier this year.<\/p>\n

The one 1XBet deal breaches article 27 of the FIFA disciplinary code on conflict of interest given he is the current president of the Cameroon football federation.<\/p>\n

Close to a month ago, a collection of over 10 amateur club presidents wrote to the Ethics committee of FECAFOOT, CAF and FIFA requesting Eto’o steps down from his role as FA boss due to the situation.<\/p>\n

Njalla Quan Jnr who played a front role in Eto’o’s race to the Tsinga football house made a similar request around the same period thus explaining the new twist.<\/p>\n

Rarely does CAF make public statements about such situations, but this case looks different as stakeholders have risen against the self-proclaimed ‘messiah’ of Cameroon football.<\/p>\n

We understand a FIFA follow up is underway in the days ahead.<\/p>\n
