Off a heart-wrenching defeat to defending champions DR Congo, \u00c9tienne Tametong Kalume and teammates seemed apt for day two’s challenge.<\/p>\n
Jean Paul Guevara embodied the team’s hunger, staging an excellent performance with a 21+ shooting rate to registering 14 points, 11 rebounds and two assists for the team.<\/p>\n
Cyrille Franck Liale and Aristide Bertrand Boya Ognong had great chemistry on the court, but the Mozambicans were more realistic in their passes.<\/p>\n
In the first quarter, Mozambique managed to out stage Arnold Kome and his teammates with Egidio Samuel Zandamela scoring two of his free throws to make it 17:16.<\/p>\n
Cameroon will eventually turn the tables around in the second quarter with a score of 36:30.<\/p>\n
A Cyrille Franck’s pull up jump shot will earn the lions three points just before the fourth and last quarter. Bringing the total scores to 51:50.<\/p>\n
The last quarter was definitely as intense as the first, with Mozambique overturning the tables. With sharpshooters like Geremias Manjate and Augusto Pio Da Costa, Coach Jean Marie Tsoungui’s men will in no time loss the lead due to persistent fouls committed by the centers.<\/p>\n
All efforts to catch up will prove futile, as Mozambique’s mastery of rebounds was instrumental in them winning this game.<\/p>\n
Speaking to the press, coach Louis Marie Tsongui expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome and is looking forward to qualifying in their last game.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe committed so many fouls, which posed us serious problems. We would have won the game earlier, in the second quarter . We defended well but committed little mistakes, we failed in our shots. Like Arnold said, we can’t play without these key centers. \u201c<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were dominating at the start, but the errors destabilized the team. The second element that killed the team was the formation, 3-2, we faced difficulties attacking, we were always hesitating. We will work hard for the last game, it’s true we are really discouraged, we should never have lost this game but well we will work hard and do our best in the last game to be programmed” he explains.<\/p>\n
Mozambique will play DR Congo on Monday, July 10, 2023. While Cameroon waits for her last opponents to be decided.<\/p>\n
