Egypt have booked their ticket to the 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), following a 2-1 win over Guinea to secure their place in the competition for the 26th time.<\/p>\n
The Pharaohs came from behind to beat Guinea and go top of Group D with 12 points, with one match to spare, thanks to goals from Mahmoud Trezeguet and Mostafa Mohamed.<\/p>\n
Guinea needed just a point to qualify and their hopes were raised with the opening goal from Serhou Guirassy after 27 minutes, before Trezeguet equalised shortly after.<\/p>\n
Egypt is the most successful nation as far Africa\u2019s biggest showpiece is concerned. Mohamed Mostapha won it minutes before full-time to secure qualification.<\/p>\n
Following victory over Guinea, they become the eighth country to qualify for the 24-team tournament, to be hosted in Cote D\u2019Ivoire next year.<\/p>\n
They have won it a record seven times(the most).<\/p>\n
Guinea were hoping a draw with hand a third consecutive AFCON ticket, to mark their third appearance in the competition, unfortunately they have to get that only through the last match against Malawi.<\/p>\n
The Syli National seats second with nine points but this defeat to Egypt means the door has been reopened for Ethiopia and Malawi, who are level on points (3pts)<\/p>\n
The bottom two face each other on Tuesday and winner of this encounter, will be hoping to meet and beat Guinea on the last day though the latter would need just a draw to join Egypt as second from the group.<\/p>\n
