It was Gauteng vs Limpopo during midweek matches in the Hollywoodbets Super League when Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies took on First Touch and JVW tackled Copperbelt Ladies at the Wits Sturrock Park Stadium on Wednesday (7 June 2023).<\/p>\n
The province of Gauteng collected all six points on offer, as the Brazilians swept past Dikgoshigadi 8-1 while JVW were made to swat as they ran out 2-1 winners again the newcomers in the league.<\/p>\n
A hattrick by Melinda Kgadiete (12\u2019, 45\u2019, 72\u2019) as well as one goal each from Boitumelo Rabale, Nonhlanhla Mthandi, Oratile Mokwena, Chuene Morifi and Lebohang Ramalepe saw Banyana ba Style extend their unbeaten run to nine games, and return to the summit of the Hollywoodbets Super League table.<\/p>\n
Both Kgadiete and Rabale are tied on 12 goals each this season.<\/p>\n
Sundowns Ladies are now on 44 points, two ahead of second placed University of the Western Cape (UWC), who have a game in hand as they did not play in midweek.<\/p>\n
In the second match of the day at the same venue, JVW had to wait until two minutes from the final whistle to secure all three points, as Gabby Salgado completed her brace on a frosty Johannesburg evening.<\/p>\n
The visitors had taken the lead in the 27th minute through an own goal, but the lead was cancelled on the stroke of halftime by Salgado, before she got her second in the 88th minute as the Blue Diamonds registered their third in a row.<\/p>\n
They are now on fourth on the table, on 36 points, just one adrift of third-placed TS Galaxy Queens who also have a match in hand.<\/p>\n
All four teams that played on Wednesday (7 June 2023) will be back in action on Saturday (10 June 2023) as seven matches of the Hollywoodbets Super League have been scheduled across the country, with only one pencilled in for Sunday (11 June 2023).<\/p>\n
The Brazilians are away to the struggling Ma-Indies Ladies at the Noordelikes Rugby Field in Polokwane, and will be hoping for another victory to maintain their lead at the top of the log standings.<\/p>\n
JVW will be at the UJ Stadium in Soweto where they will host Northern Cape\u2019s Richmond United who are going through a bad patch with four losses and a draw in their last five outings.<\/p>\n
Copperbelt Ladies haven\u2019t won a match in five games, and will be hoping for a change of fortunes when they welcome the Tshwane University of Technology at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.<\/p>\n
The Harry Gwala Stadium will be the scene of the clash between hosts Durban Ladies and Thunderbirds Ladies who are dancing around the relegation zone in 14th place.<\/p>\n
The University of Johannesburg (UJ Ladies) are away to the struggling Mpumalanga\u2019s Coal City Wizards at the Puma Stadium in Witbank.<\/p>\n
Coal City, who are second from bottom and have lost their last six matches, currently look a sure bet to drop to the Sasol League along with Ma-Indies Ladies.<\/p>\n
UWC will be away to City Lads Ladies in Gqeberha at the Isaac Wolfson Stadium, and the visitors will be eager to repeat the first round result where they won 5-1 at home \u2013 so they can keep narrow the lead between them and the log leaders (even though they have a game in hand).<\/p>\n
All the above matches will kick-off at 15h00.<\/p>\n
In the early match on Saturday, First Touch will host KwaZulu Natal\u2019s Royal AM at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane at 11h00.<\/p>\n
The home side is still smarting from an 8-1 drubbing at the hands of Sundowns Ladies on Wednesday, and will want to turn the tables on their more fancied opponents who are proving to be title challengers. Royal AM are in fifth place.<\/p>\n
Sunday\u2019s only fixture is the battle of newcomers who are holding their own in South Africa\u2019s elite women\u2019s league in their debut season \u2013 that is when TS Galaxy entertain the University of Pretoria (Tuks Ladies) at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium in KwaMhlanga, Mpumalanga.<\/p>\n
Both sides are on form.<\/p>\n
The hosts have only lost once this season, winning 14 and drawing four, while the visitors haven\u2019t tasted defeat in the last six matches, being triumphant in five of them \u2013 they scored 14 goals in two of those victories.<\/p>\n
