Legendary Cotonsport striker Kamilou Daouda has won a record ninth MTN Elite One championship title at the end of the 2022\/23 play-offs that this Sunday in Douala.<\/p>\n
The striker who won his first title with Cotonsport in 2007 from Akokana FC was an unused substitute as Daman Bouba Abdouraman and Patient Wassou Goue scored in either half to earn an 18th title.<\/p>\n
The 35-year-old Niger international and skipper of the club had revealed he wanted to win the 2022\/23 crown in the start of the competition.<\/p>\n
“I came here to win the title for the ninth time and I am prepared for that,” Kamilou said.<\/p>\n
“I have been champion of this league on eight occasions and won four Cup of Cameroon titles with Cotonsport. It wasn’t very easy to qualify for the playoffs, but now that we are here, the aim is to defend our title,” Kamilou said at the start.<\/p>\n
The striker and his mates endured a difficult season, forcing the club to make changes in their technical crew for the second season running. Since the arrival of coach Jean Baptiste Bisseck, Cotonsport is a transformed outfit. Their transformation was rewarded this evening.<\/p>\n
Kamilou is the club’s all-time top scorer and most decorated player in the history of Cameroon’s domestic football.<\/p>\n
Winner of the Cameroon League in 2007, 2008 won three titles in a role from 2013 to 2015, another in 2018 and is looking forward to achieving three wins in a row again at the end of the current play-offs.<\/p>\n
The striker has been involved in eight of Coton’s 17 domestic title wins, thus making him a club cult hero.<\/p>\n
He has been part of the club’s success in the three seasons in a row on two occasions.<\/p>\n
