The U20 Lionesses of Cameroon defeated host France by 10-9 successful penalties on Friday in their second outing at the fourth edition of the South Ladies Cup to register their first points.<\/p>\n
Brenda Tabe, Bernadette Mbele Ngaseh and Marlene Essimi were scorers for Cameroon as coach Ndoumou Mike’s team recorded a sensational 3-3 draw, before going on to beat France in the nail-biting contest at the Parc de Sports Avignon.<\/p>\n
Cameroon entered the contest hoping to show character and recover from their 3-0 defeat to Japan in Day 1 while France who beat Panama with ease in the other day one fixture were hoping to make it two wins in two.<\/p>\n
The French took control of the game from the off. Neller put the hosts ahead after five minutes of early dominance.<\/p>\n
Maruqes doubled the advantage two minutes from the break, but skipper Tabe Brenda Ebika ensured Cameroon half the defeat on the stroke of half-time.<\/p>\n
Cathy Biya and co returned for the second segment with a greater desire to perform and it didn’t take long for them to complete the comeback.<\/p>\n
Eventual ‘player of the match’ Mbele equalized for the Cameroon four minutes into the second segment but even at 2-2 the drama of the contest was far from over.<\/p>\n
France took the game to their visitors but most often than not they couldn’t break the resolute Cameroon backline.<\/p>\n
Haugou finally found the breakthrough and made it 3-2 for France with less than half an hour left.<\/p>\n
Fortunately for Cameroon, Ewoudou had a deserved equalizer 14 minutes from time to take the game to penalty.<\/p>\n
Biya’s efforts paid at the shootouts as Cameroon scored all their penalties to beat France 10-9 and pick their first two points of the tournament.<\/p>\n
The result leaves Cameroon in the third spot after two games in the four-nations invitational tournament that ends this weekend.<\/p>\n
Cameroon is ranked third behind Japan with six points and France with four points going into the final round of matches which will see the central Africans face Panama and France face the brilliant Japany who followed up their first win a 4-0 mauling of Panama.<\/p>\n
