The boys of Saliou Dia not only wowed fans with their electrifying performances against Congo (1:0), Algeria (3:0), and Somalia (3:0), but also made history by qualifying for this tournament’s quarterfinals for the very first time.<\/p>\n
A feat attained thanks to the teams’ collective efforts and the sheer brilliance of players like Serigne Fallou Diouf, Mamadou Sawane, Amara Diouf, Omar Sall, and Yaya Dieme, who all netted a goal for their country in this competition.<\/p>\n
Senegal’s phenomenal record is rivaled by Mali’s in group C. The young eagles got the opportunity to play just two games against two former champions, Cameroon and Burkina Faso, and Soumaila Coulibaly’s side did not disappoint. It was two-on-two for the team, with goals from Mahamadou Barry and a brace from Mamadou Doumbia.<\/p>\n

The group games of this edition of the U17 AFCON have been very competitive. This stage, which came to a close on Sunday, May 7, witnessed 15 encounters across the three stadia in Algiers, Constantine, and Annaba, producing a total of 36 goals (7 goals in round one, 13 goals in round two, and 16 goals in round three).<\/p>\n
With Zambia’s Emmanuel Mwanza out of the competition, the golden boot race is between Algeria’s Moslem Anatouf, Senegal’s Amara Diouf, and South Africa’s Vicky Mkhawana, who all have three goals each.<\/p>\n
