Honorable Moses Magogo, the president of the Football Association of Uganda (FUFA) says they settled for Cameroon as their home ground for their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier because the central African Nation is the most suitable option and provides them with an international friendly.<\/p>\n
Speaking to FUFA TV just after the decision to hosts Algeria in Cameroon was made and communicated to CAF this deadline day, Hon Magogo praised Cameroon’s hospitality and infrastructural progress.<\/p>\n
“Considering the factors, the connections to Cameroon are good, and the Visa requirements are okay,” Magogo said.<\/p>\n
“But most importantly, Cameroon has offered to give us an international friendly because, in that ten-day break, Cameroon won’t have an opponent in their group,” Magogo added.<\/p>\n
Ugandans were expecting their own structure, the Nelson Mandela stadium be completed before June but that can’t happen due to delays in construction works.<\/p>\n
Magogo has called on the Ugandan government to annul the contract of the present contractors working on the structure.<\/p>\n
“I call on the relevant government authorities to urgently cancel the contracts of the contractors and supervisors and immediately procure experienced service providers in stadium construction, even if it means being obtained from outside Uganda.”<\/p>\n
“The country is likely to have a delayed project, substandard work and without value for money,” Magogo continued.<\/p>\n
Uganda hosted in Egypt and lost their last home game in the current AFCON qualifier match against Tanzania.<\/p>\n
The Uganda are currently third in Group F with four points, like second-placed Tanzania while Niger is bottom of the group Algeria lead with 12 points and are through to the AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire.<\/p>\n
