The Brave Warriors of Namibia have beaten the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon to move closer to qualification for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).<\/p>\n
Peter Shalulile and Absalom Limbondi got the goals for Namibia while Vincent Aboubakar’s late finish turned out to be a consolatory goal as the hosts picked their first win of the qualifiers.<\/p>\n
Coach Benjamin Collin’s Namibia improved from last Friday’s 1-1 draw in Yaounde as they edged five-time African champions – Cameroon 2-1 this Tuesday at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto, South Africa.<\/p>\n
The win takes their points tally to five from four games and takes them closer to a spot in the finals for just the fourth time.<\/p>\n
Both sides failed to score in the opening half of the game but a lively second segment ended in favor of the Southern Africans.<\/p>\n
Shalulile pounced on a kind ball parried into his track by Epassy Mbota on goal for Cameroon to give Namibia the deserved lead after 55 minutes.<\/p>\n
The goal was the striker’s second against Cameroon in four days, and 16 overall for his country.<\/p>\n
Jean Charles Castelletto gave away a free-kick which was put through the wall by Absalom to make it 2-0 eleven minutes from time.<\/p>\n
Vincent Aboubakar scored late but that was all as Namibia held on for their first win in four against Cameroon and closer to the AFCON finals for the first time since their last in 2019.<\/p>\n
Namibia’s other AFCON participation was in 1998 and the 2008 editions.<\/p>\n
Cameroon, Namibia and Burundi will battle for a spot in Cote D’Ivoire during upcoming FIFA windows.<\/p>\n
