Naby Keita, Iliax Moriba and Morgan Guilavogui scored to help coach Kaba Diawara’s Guinea earn a 3-2 win against an exciting Ethiopian side on Monday in the latest round of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.<\/p>\n
Goals from Kenean Markneh and Kitika Jima Ojulu turned out to be consolatory for the Walia Ibex as they fell to the more efficient Guinean side in the game in Rabat.<\/p>\n
The second win against Ethiopia in a week takes Guinea’s point tally to nine from four outings in the 2023 AFCON qualifier.<\/p>\n
Naby Keita put Kaba Diawara’s Guinea ahead just four minutes into the game.<\/p>\n
Fran\u00e7ois Kamano received a great ball from Iliax Moriba and quickly connected with Keita around the edge of the box, the Liverpool midfielder did the rest.<\/p>\n
Kenean Markneh made matters even in the 34th minute with a wicked shot into the roof of the Guinea net.<\/p>\n
The goal was a reward for Ethiopia’s persistence as upon conceding first they improve and created a number of chances.<\/p>\n
Moriba restored Guinea’s advantage just ten minutes later. The Valencia midfielder received a pass from Keita, shot from outside the penalty area and scored to make it 2-1.<\/p>\n
Webetu Abate’s Ethiopia rang the changes before the restart; bringing on Yihun Endashew Zewide and veteran midfielder Oumed Oukri while Diawara introduced Morlaye Sylla in place of Naby Keita.<\/p>\n
The visitors improved but couldn’t make the most of their early chances in the second segment. Ramadan Youssef and Markneh combined but the former got into a good space and dragged his shot wide.<\/p>\n
Kamano’s cross turned shot was dealt with as the Guineans push to get the insurance goal.<\/p>\n
Guilavogui fired home in the 70th minute to make it 3-1 going into the final stages of the contest.<\/p>\n
Substitute Kitika Jima ensured it was a nervy finale as he scored in added time to make it 3-2. Unfortunately for Ethiopia there wasn’t enough time to complete the comeback as the Wild Elephants held on for the win and three points.<\/p>\n
Guinea go top of the group with nine points while Ethiopia are third with three points like Malawi. Egypt are second with six points.<\/p>\n
The next round of matches come up in June but before then the other nations observe match day four this Tuesday across the continent.<\/p>\n
