Rigobert Song says he is hoping for a better display from his Cameroon team this Tuesday when they clash with Namibia on match day four of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in South Africa.<\/p>\n
The former skipper cum coach revealed his side will be targeting improvement from the 1-1 draw in Yaounde, a win and qualification for the finals when they step out to the Orlando Stadium in Soweto this afternoon.<\/p>\n
Cameroon currently leads group D with four points and Song believes they will right the wrongs of last time out and book their place in the 34th edition of the tournament this afternoon.<\/p>\n
“We are here to attain the objective we had set from the beginning. We are here to do better than we did in the previous game. I believe my players have the quality to do that. It is going to be a completely different team,” Song said.<\/p>\n
One of Song’s best results in his time as coach of Cameroon was the 2-1 win away to Algeria during the playoff of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The trainer is yet to win at home and says winning away could be their stock in trade.<\/p>\n
“Maybe we are better away than we are at home. We have been in this situation before. It’s nearly the same situation. We want to win here and qualify. We have not come here to make jokes. We respect the opponents as they deserve to be respected but we want to qualify.<\/p>\n
“We didn’t know much about them in the beginning. We were a bit surprised by our performance but after the first game we have more knowledge and know what to do.”<\/p>\n
Cameroon’s fourth meeting with Namibia is scheduled at 2PM Cameroon time and a win will seal qualification for the 2023 AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire.<\/p>\n
The five-time African champions are boosted by the return of skipper Vincent Aboubakar who missed the first game due to a suspension.<\/p>\n
Cameroon will have to deal with the absence of injured Eric Maxim Choupo Moting, Karl Brilliant Toko Ekambi, Fai Ngoran Collins and Christopher Maurice Wooh.<\/p>\n
Olivier Kemen who had an outstanding game and scored in the reversed fixture in Yaounde is an injury doubt this Tuesday.<\/p>\n
