The Olympic Panthers of Gabon took a step towards qualification for the 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) following a 1-0 win against 10-man Cameroon.<\/p>\n
Jeremie Moussango’s early strike was enough for Gabon to egde Cameroon in the Central African derby at the Franceville stadium this Saturday.<\/p>\n
Cameroon finished the game with ten players after Blondon Mayapia was sent off after he planted he retaliated to being foul with a violent stretch of his boots into the knees of an opponent.<\/p>\n
Guy Feutchine named a strong starting XI that had Simon Ngapandouetnbu in goal, protected by a reliable back four and a versatile midfield trio of Mvoue, Ambina and Eyong Karl.<\/p>\n
Yvan Djantou led the front line, flanked by Abddoulaye Yahaya and Regis Mughe.<\/p>\n
Gabon took control of the game from the start, dominated Cameroon and came close to scoring on two occasions in the first ten minutes.<\/p>\n
The hosts had their noses in front 13 minutes into it when Moussango notched home a square ball into the box.<\/p>\n
The goal caused the Cameroon team to be more expansive. Yahaya and Mughe tried to beat the Gabonese defence set up on a pair of occasions before the interval the quality of delivery to Djantou was their undoing.<\/p>\n
Cameroon returned for the second segment as the more offensive side as they search for the equalizer.<\/p>\n
The Gabonese defence stood the test of their visitors for the rest of the half and walked away with the crucial 1-0 win in the end.<\/p>\n
Tuesday’s game in Yaounde is a must win for Cameroon if they have to join Morocco and 10 others in the U-23 AFCON in June.<\/p>\n
