Indomitable Lions of Cameroon makeshift captain Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa says he is satisfied by the performance of his colleagues despite failing to get maximum points against Namibia in match day three of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier on Friday night in Yaounde.<\/p>\n
Fans in Cameroon’s capital city went home disappointed with the fact that the five-time African champions failed to beat the Brave Warriors at the historic Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium.<\/p>\n
Deadly striker Peter Shalulile put the visitors ahead midway into the first segment before debutant Olivier Kemen of Kayserispor fetched a point with a late equalizer to keep Cameroon on track to Cote D’Ivoire next year.<\/p>\n
To Zambo, the team did it’s best best to be satisfied though they were it wasn’t all rosy.<\/p>\n
“We did our best but we made errors that were costly. Tonight we are satisfied though we didn’t get the result we wanted from this game and for our people,” Anguissa explained.<\/p>\n
The draw took Cameroon’s tally to four points from two outings in the three-nations group and leave the door to Cote D’Ivoire open for Namibia as well as Burundi who are playing catch up to Rigobert Song’s team by three and four points respectively.<\/p>\n
Zambo believes there will be an improvement in the next outing counting for match day four in South Africa.<\/p>\n
“We will go to South Africa to win. Whenever we play for Cameroon, the first intention is to win. That’s the mentality we will take to South Africa.”<\/p>\n
Cameroon will travel to South Africa on Sunday ahead of Tuesday’s second game against Namibia at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto, hoping to get a win which will amount to qualification for the 34th edition of the AFCON scheduled early next year.<\/p>\n
Zambo has been one of the technical leaders of the Cameroon since his debut against Tunisia in March 2017. His crowning moment arrived on Friday at Mfadena when Song tasked the former Cotonsport midfield metronome to wear the skipper’s armband on the occasion of his 47 cap.<\/p>\n
