The African continent has set a new record in the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.<\/p>\n
For the first time in world cup history, all five representatives from the African continent were coached by their nationals – Cameroon, Tunisia, Ghana, Morocco, and African champions Senegal.<\/p>\n
Of the five African teams that represented the African continent, two of them qualified for the round of 16 – Senegal and Morocco with the latter finishing top of their group.<\/p>\n
The African teams picked up 24 points out of a possible 45 points, scoring 19 goals in the 15 matches they played in the group stage of the competition.<\/p>\n

Remarkable among the victories are Morocco’s two-nil victory against Belgium, Tunisia’s one-nil victory against France, and Cameroon’s one-nil victory against Brazil.<\/p>\n
Despite being eliminated, Cameroon made history by becoming the first African country to beat Brazil at the World Cup. Their win also halted the five-time World Champions\u2019 17-match winning run in the group stages. A run that started after their defeat to Norway on June 23, 1998.<\/p>\n
Throughout a single World Cup, Africa had, up until this tournament, managed to register a maximum of four victories. This had previously happened on two occasions, and each time one team, in particular, stood out from the rest.<\/p>\n
Never before have all five different African teams emerged victorious from a match at the same World Cup. They had recorded three successes at four previous competitions, in 2002 (Senegal, Cameroon, and South Africa), 2010 (South Africa, Ghana, and C\u00f4te d’Ivoire), 2014 (C\u00f4te d’Ivoire, Nigeria, and Algeria), and 2018 (Nigeria, Senegal, and Tunisia).<\/p>\n
But whatever happens in the days that remain to the end of the world cup, this tournament will have set an impressive new benchmark for the continent.<\/p>\n
