Elite 1: Alfred Meyong\u2019s last minute goal denies Canon 3pts<\/p>\n

Alfred Meyong climbed off the bench to deny three points to his former employers Canon Yaounde after scoring late for Stade Renard of Melong in a 2-2 draw in the MTN Elite 1 championship this Sunday.<\/p>\n

The match day 14 fixture pitting 2nd-placed visiting Canon Sportive, and 7th placed Stade Renard of Melong didn’t disappoint in terms of spectacle.<\/p>\n

In form striker Emmanuel Mahopp opened scores for Canon in the 6PM kick off at the 18th minute.<\/p>\n

A smart move from inside the box helped him beat Emile Merlin on goal for Stade Renard.<\/p>\n

Three minutes before the end of first-half, Sindjo Brice Edmond scored the equalizer.<\/p>\n

The former Canon sportive of Yaounde forward, was part of the team\u2019s squad that got promoted to the top flight championship 2019 and was equally the club\u2019s joint top goal scorer then alongside Kunde Emmanuel Jr.<\/p>\n

The equalizing goal ensured both sides separate for the break on a 1-1 scoreline.<\/p>\n

The Canon players guided by former Stade Renard coach Aboubakar Souleymanou, were exhibiting experience early in the second segment as they search to restore their lead.<\/p>\n

On two occasions in this encounter, Mahopp squandered goal scoring opportunities.<\/p>\n

Essama Bengono came off the bench in place of Tchikeu Henry Paul to a score a magnificent second and for Canon in the 75th minute.<\/p>\n

The visitors preparing to celebrate the win had their joy curtailed when substitute and former Canon man Alfred Meyong equalized in added time.<\/p>\n

The last minute equalizer denied Canon a chance of backing home all three points.<\/p>\n

Canon registered their third draw of the season but retains her second position with 22 points while the boys from Melong have added a point to their previous tally of 16 points.<\/p>\n
