Albacete Balompi\u00e9 defense man, Flavien Enzo Boyomo is one amongst the 34 players pre-selected by head coach of the Cameroon National team, Rigobert Song Bahanag ahead of their AFCON 2023 double header confrontation against Namibia.<\/p>\n
This is the very first time the 21-year-old central defender who ply his trade in Spain is getting a call up to the National team.<\/p>\n
Unarguably, his captivating performance is what triggered his inclusion in the 34-man squad as he is considered one of the best defenders in the Spanish second tier championship.<\/p>\n
Boyomo, has featured in 27 out of 29 games for his club this season, with the last been a 1-1 draw against Oviedo on February 26, 2023.<\/p>\n
Born in France, the Franco-Cameroonian went through Toulouse academy and Blackburn Rovers in 2016 for his training. Boyomo spent almost all is life of training in England.<\/p>\n
While at Blackburn\u2019s U18, he made over 55 appearances before gaining promotion to the U21 category of the Academy but did not get the opportunity to be integrated to the Senior team.<\/p>\n
And so, his current club, Albacete Bolompie became his very first professional signing since 2020 after leaving England for Spain.<\/p>\n
Having spent about two and a half years at the Spanish second division club, Rigobert Song Bahanag\u2019s new boy counts over 88 appearances in all competitions.<\/p>\n
Just like Chelsea\u2019s Benjamin Elliot earned a first call, Boyomo may appear in the green, red and yellow one all sports jersey for the first time if at the end of the day he is retained in the final squad to face Namibia.<\/p>\n
Same cannot be said about his fellow debutants, Malcom Mputu Bekele, Darlin Yongwa and Carlos Beleba who went through one of Cameroon\u2019s most prominent football academy, EFBC and even the junior national team categories before moving to Europe.<\/p>\n
Boyomo comes at a time when Cameroon is much criticized for it\u2019s shaky back line and uncertainty in the level of collaboration between the regular Lion defenders.<\/p>\n
The central defender will therefore have to prove he is worth the call in thesame position as Nantes defender, Jean Charles Castelleto, Rennes\u2019 Christopher Wooh and the almost defense man in the squad, Nicolas Nkoulou.<\/p>\n
The Indomitable lions of Cameroon will face Namibia on the 23 and 28 of March this year, in day three and four of the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.<\/p>\n
