Mortada Mansour, President of Egyptian giants Zamalek SC, has been jailed for reigning verbal insults on rival President of Al Ahly, Mahmoud El Khatib.<\/p>\n
The 70-year-old Politician will serve a one month jail term after his use of parliamentary immunity to protect himself from such lawsuits failed to work in his favour especially after losing an election in 2020.<\/p>\n
Mahmoud\u2019s defamation charges against the accused following a video that surfaced on social media as well as Zamalek\u2019s handle were valid and so the latter\u2019s president has been found guilty as charged.<\/p>\n
Initially, he was sentenced to one year in prison but later reduced to just one month in August 2022 following the rejection of another appeal to avoid the jail sentence.<\/p>\n
Reports has it that, this is not the first instance where Mansour is found guilty of verbally pouring insults on rival officials.<\/p>\n
The confederation of African football had in 2018, banned Zamalek\u2019s President from all football related activities for a year after unacceptable comments on CAF officials.<\/p>\n
Back in 2017 before CAF\u2019s ban, Mansour had been sentenced to three-years in prison by a criminal court in Egypt for insulting and calling court officials corrupt.<\/p>\n
As it stands, Mansour has unofficially lost his position as President of Zamalek, as the Egyptian law stipulates a convict cannot take charge of a public position.<\/p>\n
It should be noted that, Al Ahly are way ahead of Zamalek in terms of records. They are the current leaders of the Egyptian premier league, nine points away from Zamalek.<\/p>\n
Al Ahly have won a total of 24 titles in CAF competitions, nine more than their local rivals, Zamalek.<\/p>\n
