Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon forward Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene says her attitude after scoring against Haiti was defined by emotions and not discontent as speculation read in the past 24 hours.<\/p>\n
Aboudi came off the bench in the 74th minute and scored two late goals to help Cameroon beat Haiti 2-0 in the 2023 Women’s FIFA World Cup playoff semi-final on Saturday in Hamilton, New Zealand.<\/p>\n
Strangely, the 33-year-old celebrated both goals by putting up facial expressions which could be interpreted by many as a sign of unhappiness.<\/p>\n
Social media has gone agog since those footages were first put online with some suggesting Aboudi is unhappy.<\/p>\n
“I was extremely happy,” the forward contradicted before adding; “What is true is there are so many ways to show joy. Honestly, I didn’t know how to celebrate. That’s why I stayed calm but I was happy.”<\/p>\n
Aboudi’s 34th and 35th goals for Cameroon earned her Nation a cliffhanger clash against Portugal on Wednesday in the final round of the playoff.<\/p>\n
The winner of that game will book a place for the FIFA World Cup tournaments scheduled in New Zealand and Australia later this year.<\/p>\n
Aboudi is Cameroon’s all-time lead scorer in Women’s international football and could stir her nation to a third consecutive FIFA World Cup tournament next week.<\/p>\n
The CSKA Moscow forward is one of coach Gabriel Zabo’s key player in the quest to reach the global event again.<\/p>\n
