The great Gerard Theophile Mbimi has died in Douala, aged 74. The former Tiko as well as Victoria United manager, who had fought a long battle with illness, passed away this Saturday as revealed by renown Journalist Marc Chouamo.<\/p>\n
Legendary Mbimi played part time football with a number of clubs in the 1970s. After his playing career, he went on to manage Mount Cameroon FC, Aigle of Nkongsamba, Union Sportive of Douala, Bamboutos FC of Mbouda, NQSA and New Stars of Douala were he had his last big job in 2019.<\/p>\n
Mbimi managed 21 clubs during a 24-year glittering career that sometimes took him closer to the Cameroon national team job.<\/p>\n
Maritzburg FC of South Africa’s goalkeeper Anye Derick, who played under him at Union Sportive of Douala, joined a host of players and officials who paid tribute to their former mentor following that match, saying, “Mbimi is a legend over the country. He gave me a lot as a player.”<\/p>\n
“I would like to pay my deepest respects to Mbimi and his family. All I can say is rest in peace, forever you will be missed.”<\/p>\n
“Tiko United lose another of its legendary managers,” Fabrice Mballa, the vice president of the Club Mbimi worked for in the early 2000s wrote on the the fans of kick442.com platform.<\/p>\n
Mbimi journeys home just 48 hours after another legendary Cameroonian coach Ngweya Ikouam was laid to rest.<\/p>\n
