Double Cameroon champions UMS of Loum have announced they are backing out from the top flight championship with immediate effect.<\/p>\n
A release from the office of the Club’s secretary general, Tchungo Joseph this Friday confirmed the move sighting a number of reasons.<\/p>\n
“This is a draw to the attention of the players and staff that due to FECAFOOT’s Unilateral increase in the club’s financial obligation to its players and failure to pay subvention for the 2021\/22 , 2022\/23 season which has created crisis in our club, we hereby declare general forfeiture,” the club statement read.<\/p>\n
It should be noted that, at the beginning of the current Cameroon Elite One season, the Cameroon football federation announced top clubs must pay at least 200 000 FCFA to each of their players.<\/p>\n
The move which was applauded at the time is now taking a tool on the survival of UMS.<\/p>\n
The past few weeks have seen a number of crises in the ranks of the two-time champions of Cameroon as players.<\/p>\n
Secretary Tchungo however acknowledged they have received 11 of the 48 Millions the Federation promised before the start of the season.<\/p>\n
“FECAFOOT has given us just 11 Millions FCFA and made a number of promises but failed to respect them. Good luck to the rest of the clubs.”<\/p>\n
The move from UMS of Loum comes on the eve of the resumption of the second round of championship.<\/p>\n
UMS of Loum was created in 2011 and ascended to the top-flight championship in 2014. They have been in championship for close to a decade.<\/p>\n
A number of Elite One players have complained about non-payment of their salaries.<\/p>\n
Last December, Fovu of Baham players boycotted a pre-match camp because of the same reason.<\/p>\n
UMS’ game against Stade Renard of Melong this weekend is now in the balance.<\/p>\n
