Cameroonian forward Bryan Mbeumo scored and assisted as Brentford beat Southampton 3-0 last weekend on match day 21 of the English Premier League.<\/p>\n
Mbeumo provided the assist as Ben Mee opened scores four minutes before the break and scored himself three minutes later. Mathias Jensen scored the other goal for coach Thomas Frank’s men on the night Southampton didn’t come to the party.<\/p>\n
22-year-old was at his best in the afternoon at Saint Mary’s. He tormented the Southampton rare guard at will. The native of Bafang in West Region of Cameroon won the game singlehandedly.<\/p>\n
The first chance of the game fell to his forward colleague Ivan Toney five minutes after kick-off. Unfortunately, the Brentford lead scorer wasted the chance without testing G Bazunu in goal for Southampton.<\/p>\n
There was a quick reaction for the Saints who could have scored just minutes later, if not for the brilliance of David Raya in goal for the Bees.<\/p>\n
The hosts were pedestrians in their movements and could barely get control of the ball as Brentford dominated.<\/p>\n
Mbeumo’s assist was telling as rewarded his club’s first-half efforts in the 41st minute. He broke into the Saints backline and made them pay for their sins of poor defending laying the ball on the plate for Mee to score.<\/p>\n
Mbeumo came for more just three minutes later. He combined with Wisan Yissa to double the advantage.<\/p>\n
It was 2-0 at the interval, but not without signs of more to come from both sides.<\/p>\n
Same old story marked resumption – the Saints were nearly caught napping ten minutes into the second segment.<\/p>\n
Ivan Toney and Mbeumo combined but poor finishing let Southampton off the hook.<\/p>\n
Brentford dominated though Southampton had chances they failed to explore. However there was a goal in the final ten minutes.<\/p>\n
A great ball from Mbeumo found Jensen unmarked in the edge of the box ten minutes from. The forward whose work rate in the afternoon was deserving of at least a goal whipped the ball pass Bunzu to extend the lead to 3-0. At this moment, it needed something special for Southampton to come back into the contest on the night they showed signs of nothing special.<\/p>\n
Brentford sealed their defence. Hence it finished 3-0 in favor of Mbeumo’s Brentford. He scooped the ‘man of the match’ award for the fourth time in a Premier League career which started last season.<\/p>\n
With the result, Brentford moves up to 7th with 33 points while Southampton remain at the base of the table with 15 points so far in the Premier League.<\/p>\n
Mbeumo takes his returns for this season to five goals and two assists in 21 games.<\/p>\n
