The president of the Confederation of African Football CAF, Dr Patrice Motsepe has praised his close collaborator Seidou Mbombo Njoya, for his impact in the organization of an impressive 2022 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN)<\/p>\n
A spectacular final between host Algeria and Senegal pulled the curtains on the three-week tournament with the West Africans clinching the events prize asset overpowering Algeria 5-4 after post-match penalties.<\/p>\n
Fans who attended the continental jamboree in Algeria have waxed lyrical about the tournament, stating that the seventh edition of the CHAN which ran from January 13 to February 4 is the best ever staged. CAF’s supremo Dr Motsepe agreed during a press conference before the final and pointed out some of the architects of the feat.<\/p>\n
“We all agree that the competition has been successful. This couldn’t be possible without the efforts of my brother Seidou,” Motsepe stated in part of his address to over 100 journalists who were covering the tournament in Algeria.<\/p>\n
“There were moments he (Seidou) spent lots of time here in Algeria working closely with Djahid Zefizef (Federation of Algerian Football president) and the Algerian government through sleepless nights to deliver what we have experienced.”<\/p>\n
Seidou, CAF fourth vice president and president of the CHAN Organizing committee helped Algeria punch above their weight. The north African nation delivered a fantastic event, appreciated by many on the continent and beyond. It was a rare CHAN tournament that attracted thousands of Africans to various match venues as mirrored by the 39.741 fans that attended the final at the Nelson Mandela stadium, in Baraki.<\/p>\n
Having been around the game for over three decades and been a crucial part in Cameroon’s successful hosting of the CHAN 2020 and the 2021 AFCON, president Mbombo Njoya is using the knowledge garnered all these years to good effect.<\/p>\n
CHAN 2022 has raised the standards and interest in the continent’s second major men’s competition and hopes are high that Seidou Mbombo Njoya who’s now been at the heart of the organization of two CHAN tournaments will continue bringing his wealth of experience to the table for the growth of the sport on the continent.<\/p>\n
