Cotonsport de Garoua continued their impressive Cameroon Elite One campaign with a valuable 2-0 away victory over Victoria United in an Advanced Day Four encounter at the Limbe Centenary Stadium. Goals from Seini Hamit and Becombo Assan condemned the hosts to another disappointing afternoon and extended Cotonsport’s impressive run against the Limbe outfit on their home ground.

The encounter offered Victoria United an opportunity to make a statement in front of their supporters, but Cotonsport demonstrated the experience and attacking efficiency that have made them one of the most competitive sides in Cameroonian football. The visitors settled quickly into the contest and were rewarded in the 20th minute when Seini Hamit found the back of the net to put the Garoua giants ahead. The early breakthrough gave Cotonsport control of the contest and forced Victoria United to chase the game.

Trailing by a goal, Victoria United needed a strong response but found it difficult to turn their home advantage into goals. The hosts attempted to get back into the contest, knowing that another defeat in Limbe against Cotonsport would represent a significant psychological setback. However, the visitors remained organised, protected their advantage and managed the pressure as the minutes ticked away.

With the encounter approaching its conclusion, Cotonsport delivered the decisive blow. Becombo Assan struck in the 89th minute to double the visitors’ advantage, effectively ending Victoria United’s hopes of salvaging anything from the fixture. The late goal underlined Cotonsport’s ability to remain dangerous even when defending a narrow lead and ensured that their journey back to Garoua would be accompanied by three important points.

Beyond the three points, the result carries additional significance because it represents back-to-back defeats for Victoria United against Cotonsport at the Limbe Centenary Stadium. For the Garoua-based club, winning again on the same ground reinforces their growing authority in this particular matchup and provides another boost to their ambitions in the Elite One championship.

For Victoria United, the defeat raises fresh questions about their ability to turn home fixtures into positive results, particularly against established title contenders. They will need to respond quickly, improve their attacking efficiency and restore confidence as the championship progresses. Cotonsport, meanwhile, can take considerable encouragement from an away performance that combined an early breakthrough with a late finish to secure a convincing 2-0 victory.
