Ivan Jordan Nana’s dream of representing Cameroon at senior level has taken a major step forward, with the young midfielder earning his first call-up to the Indomitable Lions barely 48 hours after helping the country win the UNIFFAC U20 tournament.

The 19-year-old, who captained Cameroon’s Under-20 side during their successful campaign on home soil, has been rewarded for his leadership and performances with a place in David Pagou’s squad for the November international window. His promotion from the youth ranks comes at a particularly memorable moment, with the young Lions having only just celebrated their regional triumph.

Nana was one of the players entrusted with carrying Cameroon’s hopes at the UNIFFAC competition in Yaoundé. Wearing the captain’s armband, he helped lead a group determined to deliver silverware to the home supporters. His responsibility extended beyond his individual performances, as he was also expected to set the tone for his teammates throughout the tournament.

The midfielder’s journey to the senior national team has been built through his development with Indomables Academy and his involvement with Cameroon’s youth selections. His latest call-up is recognition of that progress and an opportunity to demonstrate that he can compete at a higher level. At 19, joining the senior squad will also give him the chance to learn from more experienced internationals and understand the demands of international football.

For David Pagou, Nana’s inclusion offers an opportunity to assess a young player who has just experienced the pressure and responsibility of leading a national youth team to success. The coach has shown a willingness to open the door to emerging talents, blending promising youngsters with established names as he prepares Cameroon for the challenges ahead.

The Indomitable Lions are scheduled to face Namibia on November 12 and 16 in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. For Nana, the immediate objective will be to make the most of his first experience with the senior squad and convince the technical staff that he can contribute at this level. Whether he makes his debut during the double-header remains to be seen, but the call-up itself represents a significant milestone.

From captaining the U20 Lions to regional glory to receiving his first invitation to the senior national team within days, Nana has enjoyed a remarkable week. His next challenge is to turn that momentum into a lasting place in Cameroon’s plans. For a young footballer still at the beginning of his career, the door to the Indomitable Lions has now opened.
