The players of the Ghanaian women’s national team, the Black Queens, have issued a joint, public statement laying bare a deepening dispute with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) over systemic non-payment, poor structural support, and political abandonment.<\/p>\n
The declaration comes at a critical juncture following the team’s elimination in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) quarter-finals against Malawi and ahead of their FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup qualification play-in against C\u00f4te d’Ivoire.<\/p>\n
The statement outlines specific instances of unfulfilled financial obligations and a lack of structural support, presenting a detailed account of the squad’s grievances.<\/p>\n
From Outstanding bonuses, including the Egypt 2025 bonus to WAFCON qualification bonus, Group stage bonuses, Outstanding per diem payments , calling for better management support for players and officials.<\/p>\n
The players pointed out a lack of direct engagement from sports ministry leadership during their campaign:<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Minister came only once, during our first official training session, and the President also attended that same session. Apart from that occasion, we have largely had to rely on ourselves, our teammates and our technical staff throughout this journey.” States the letter<\/p>\n
The squad clarified that their intervention is aimed at establishing structural standards rather than escalating conflict<\/p>\n
The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has responded to the release on Wednesday August 12, stating that per diems up to August 7 had been settled and that group-stage winning bonuses (notably for the victory over Cape Verde) were currently being processed through standard banking channels.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, the Ministry noted that the existing sports financing framework does not mandate a dedicated “qualification bonus” for two-legged qualifying rounds, such as the tie against Egypt.<\/p>\n
In response, player representatives noted that previous qualification campaigns received performance bonuses. They also cited administrative delays regarding daily per diem disbursements starting from the initial camp date of July 11.<\/p>\n
