Cameroon women\u2019s national team star Ajara Nchout has broken her silence following her controversial omission from the Indomitable Lionesses squad ahead of the 2026 Women\u2019s Africa Cup of Nations, insisting that her decision to step away was motivated by principle rather than anger.<\/p>\n

In a statement shared through A1, the experienced forward made it clear that she would not publicly accuse anyone or allow the controversy surrounding her absence to overshadow the national team\u2019s preparations.<\/p>\n

I will not mention any names. I do not wish to accuse anyone or fuel controversies that would distract attention from what is essential: the Indomitable Lionesses and the WAFCON that is approaching.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The 33-year-old explained that she had encountered situations she felt were incompatible with the principles that have guided her throughout her career.<\/p>\n

I will simply say that I experienced situations that I did not consider compatible with the values that have guided my entire career. I therefore chose to withdraw, not out of anger, but out of responsibility.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Her remarks come after days of intense debate following her absence from Cameroon\u2019s squad for the upcoming Women\u2019s Africa Cup of Nations. While speculation has surrounded the circumstances of her omission, Ajara deliberately avoided naming individuals, choosing instead to place the spotlight firmly on the Indomitable Lionesses and their quest for continental success.<\/p>\n

The reaction to her omission has been amplified by the remarkable career she has built over the past decade. Having played professionally for Rossiyanka in Russia, V\u00e5lerenga Fotball in Norway, Atl\u00e9tico Madrid in Spain, Inter Milan in Italy and Al-Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia, Ajara has become one of Cameroon\u2019s most successful football exports. She won the Norwegian Toppserien title and the Norwegian Cup with V\u00e5lerenga in 2020, finishing that campaign as the league\u2019s top scorer with 10 goals, before lifting the Spanish Super Cup with Atl\u00e9tico Madrid in 2021.<\/p>\n

Ajara has earned 76 caps and scored 28 goals for Cameroon, making her the second-highest goalscorer in the history of the Indomitable Lionesses, behind only the legendary Magdalene Ngono Mani. She represented Cameroon at four Women\u2019s Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, helping the Lionesses finish runners-up in 2014 and 2016 before securing a third-place finish in 2018. She also featured at two FIFA Women\u2019s World Cups, including the historic 2019 tournament in France.<\/p>\n
