Africa\u2019s representatives at the 2026 FIFA World Cup have experienced mixed fortunes after the opening rounds of matches, with several nations placing themselves in strong positions while others face uphill battles to reach the knockout stage.<\/p>\n

Reigning African champions Morocco have once again demonstrated why they are regarded as one of the continent\u2019s strongest sides. The Atlas Lions opened their campaign with an impressive draw against Brazil before securing a crucial victory over Scotland, putting themselves in an excellent position to qualify for the Round of 32.<\/p>\n

Egypt have also impressed. The Pharaohs held Belgium to a draw in their opening match before defeating New Zealand 3-1 in their second outing. The seven-time African champions are now favourites to progress from Group G.<\/p>\n

Cote D\u2019Ivoire started brightly with a victory over Ecuador but suffered a narrow defeat to Germany in their second game. Despite the setback, the Elephants remain firmly in contention for a place in the knockout phase.<\/p>\n

Cape Verde have emerged as one of the surprise packages of the tournament. The debutants earned a goalless draw against Spain and followed it up with another impressive point against Uruguay, proving they can compete with some of world football\u2019s established nations.<\/p>\n

DR Congo have also exceeded expectations. The Leopards held Portugal to a 1-1 draw in their opening match and remain hopeful of extending their World Cup journey heading into their second round group match against Colombia.<\/p>\n

Algeria endured a difficult start with a heavy defeat to Argentina but responded strongly by coming from behind to beat Jordan 2-1. The Desert Foxes now head into their final group match against Austria with qualification still within reach.<\/p>\n

Ghana made a winning start against Panama and strengthened their chances of progressing ahead of a crucial encounter with England this Tuesday. The Black Stars have once again displayed the fighting spirit that has made them one of Africa\u2019s most respected World Cup nations.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Senegal have suffered two painful defeats. After losing to France in their opening game, the Lions of Teranga were edged 3-2 by Norway despite a brace from Ismaila Sarr. The West Africans must now beat Iraq and hope other results favour them.<\/p>\n

South Africa have struggled to build momentum after losing to hosts Mexico before drawing with Czechia. Bafana Bafana still have an opportunity to revive their campaign in their final group match.<\/p>\n

Tunisia have endured a disappointing tournament so far. The Carthage Eagles were heavily beaten by Sweden before suffering another defeat against Japan, leaving them on the brink of elimination.<\/p>\n

With the group stage approaching its decisive phase, Africa\u2019s hopes of a strong showing remain alive. Morocco, Egypt, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Algeria, Cape Verde and DR Congo are all still in contention to reach the Round of 32, highlighting the growing competitiveness of African football on the world stage.<\/p>\n
