Senegal have unveiled their squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, in a statement announcement that blends experience, youth, and star power, a captivating announcement that has left football lovers talking about such level of creativity and intent.
\nHead coach Pape Thiaw named a 28-man provisional list on Thursday, May 21, with captains Kalidou Koulibaly and Sadio Man\u00e9 headlining a squad built to leave a mark in the U.S.A, Mexico and Canada, for their fourth World Cup appearance.<\/p>\n

The biggest headline is the return of Sadio Man\u00e9, the country\u2019s record scorer with 53 international goals. The 34-year-old Al-Nassr forward and just crowned champion of the Saudi pro League, missed Qatar 2022 due to an injury, and this will likely be his final World Cup as he already announced that the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 was his last.<\/p>\n

Thiaw called him a central figure his side as he kept the core of the team that reached the 2025 AFCON final in Morocco and lifted the trophy. A team, that equally has a good number of players who emerged champions of Africa for the first time in 2021.<\/p>\n

Man\u00e9 will be joined up front by a mix of European-based firepower: Bayern Munich\u2019s Nicolas Jackson, Everton\u2019s Iliman Ndiaye, Crystal Palace\u2019s Ismaila Sarr, and PSG teenager Ibrahim Mbaye.<\/p>\n

Veteran player Nampalys Mendy, 33, with 33 caps for National Team, is one of the biggest names left out.<\/p>\n

Of the 28 players listed, Four players will be cut before the final deadline at the end of the month of May.<\/p>\n

Senegal is widely seen as one of Africa\u2019s strongest contender and will alongside nine others, defend the Continent. Two European sides with top-tier talent, plus a solid Asian champion.<\/p>\n

Senegal will compete in Group I alongside former world champions France, Norway, and Iraq.France are the 2018 champions and 2022 runners-up, a squad packed with talent like Mbapp\u00e9, Demb\u00e9l\u00e9, Olise and will not be an easy nut to crack.<\/p>\n

Their campaign opens with a blockbuster against France on June 16 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, in what will be a repeat of their 2002 meeting.
\nThey face Norway on June 22 at the same venue, then conclude the group stage against Iraq in Toronto on June 26.<\/p>\n

Senegal\u2019s best World Cup run remains the 2002 quarter-final. For Man\u00e9, Koulibaly, and Senegal\u2019s \u201cgolden generation,\u201d 2026 could be the last chance to go further.<\/p>\n

Senegal has two friendlies lined up before the World Cup final; they face the U.S. men\u2019s national team in Charlotte, North Carolina on May 31 and then Saudi Arabia at Toyota Field in San Antonio, Texas on June 10.<\/p>\n
