Cameroonian defender Che Malone Fondoh Junior has finally conquered the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup after helping Algerian giants USM Alger defeat Zamalek SC 8-7 on penalties in a dramatic 2025\/26 final.<\/p>\n

USM Alger entered the second leg with a narrow first-leg advantage, but saw that lead wiped out early in the return fixture as Zamalek restored parity on aggregate. With neither side able to find a decisive winner afterward, the contest was ultimately decided via a tense penalty shootout, where USM Alger prevailed 8-7 to secure continental glory.<\/p>\n

At the heart of the triumph was Che Malone.<\/p>\n

The Cameroonian center-back played the full game and produced another authoritative defensive display on the biggest stage. He won seven of his 10 duels, underlining his physical dominance, while also asserting himself aerially with four successful aerial duels from six attempts. On the ground, he remained equally solid, winning three of his four ground duels to help neutralize Zamalek\u2019s attacking threats.<\/p>\n

The victory crowns a memorable debut season for Malone at USM Alger, with the defender now winning his second trophy of the campaign after also lifting the Algerian Cup.<\/p>\n

But beyond the silverware, this latest triumph feels deeply symbolic.<\/p>\n

Che, who represented Cameroon at the last Africa Cup of Nations, continues to build a career trajectory that reflects years of steady growth and persistence. From his early days with Continental FA, followed by spells at Union Sportive de Douala and Cotonsport de Garoua, the defender has steadily climbed the ladder of African football.<\/p>\n

His continental journey has been one of constant progression.<\/p>\n

In 2023, he reached the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals with Cotonsport, only to fall short against Algerian side JS Kabylie.<\/p>\n

A year later, he got even closer, reaching the final with Simba SC, but again finished on the losing side.<\/p>\n

Now, in his first season at USM Alger, he has finally gone all the way \u2014 from semi-finalist, to finalist, to champion.<\/p>\n

For many who know his background, this success carries added emotional significance.<\/p>\n

Che is, in many ways, continuing a football story started by his father, popularly known as Tolambo in his native Bafut. A respected football figure in his own right, Tolambo possessed immense promise but never fully attained the heights many believed he was capable of reaching.
\nHis son is now writing a different ending.<\/p>\n

By reaching the Africa Cup of Nations with Cameroon and now lifting a major continental club title, Che Malone is not only building his own legacy but also fulfilling part of a football dream that began with the previous generation.<\/p>\n

USM Alger\u2019s victory also marked a historic milestone for head coach Lamine Ndiaye, who joins the exclusive list of managers to have won both of CAF\u2019s elite club competitions.<\/p>\n

Having previously lifted the CAF Champions League with TP Mazembe, Ndiaye now adds the CAF Confederation Cup to his honors list, further cementing his status among Africa\u2019s accomplished tacticians.<\/p>\n

For Che Malone, however, this night was about reward after persistence.<\/p>\n

After years of steady improvement, near misses, and continental heartbreak, the Cameroonian defender has finally reached the summit of African club football.<\/p>\n
