The DR Congo national football team secured a historic return to the FIFA World Cup after defeating the Jamaica national football team 1\u20130 after extra time in a tense intercontinental playoff final. It is a landmark achievement for the Central African nation, marking their first appearance at the global tournament since 1974, when they competed as Zaire.<\/strong><\/p>\n

From the opening stages, DR Congo looked the more purposeful side, controlling possession and creating the better chances. The attacking duo of C\u00e9dric Bakambu and Meschack Elia constantly troubled Jamaica\u2019s defence, but they were repeatedly denied by the brilliance of goalkeeper Andre Blake, who produced a string of fine saves to keep the Caribbean side in the game.<\/p>\n

Jamaica, known as the Reggae Boyz, remained compact and dangerous on the counterattack, with Leon Bailey offering their biggest threat going forward. Despite moments of promise from both sides, the match remained goalless after 90 minutes, with DR Congo even seeing a late effort ruled out for offside, forcing the contest into extra time.<\/p>\n

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 100th minute when defender Axel Tuanzebe turned home from close range following a corner kick. After a brief VAR check, the goal stood, sparking wild celebrations among the Congolese players and fans. It proved to be the decisive moment in a match defined by tension and fine margins.<\/p>\n

In the closing stages, DR Congo showed resilience and composure to protect their lead. Led by captain Chancel Mbemba at the back and goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi between the posts, they withstood late Jamaican pressure to seal a famous victory.<\/p>\n

At the final whistle, history was made as DR Congo ended a 52-year absence from the World Cup. Under the guidance of S\u00e9bastien Desabre, the team has grown into a disciplined and competitive unit, and their qualification signals a new chapter for Congolese football on the world stage.<\/p>\n
