The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has handed down disciplinary sanctions against the President of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), Samuel Eto\u2019o, following incidents deemed unethical during the Cameroon vs. Morocco quarterfinal match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.<\/p>\n

CAF\u2019s Disciplinary Committee found Eto\u2019o guilty of conduct contrary to the organization\u2019s Code of Ethics and Fair Play. As a result, the former African Footballer of the Year has been suspended for four matches and fined $20,000.<\/p>\n

The verdict did not come as a major surprise, as Eto\u2019o had already been under scrutiny for his behavior surrounding the high-tension encounter. Several actions by Cameroonian players and officials during and after the match were widely criticized, with fingers pointed at the FECAFOOT president even before CAF\u2019s ruling was announced.<\/p>\n

This sanction adds to a growing list of disciplinary issues involving Eto\u2019o. In 2024, FIFA imposed a six-month ban on him after investigations found him guilty of misconduct and harassment of match officials. That incident followed Cameroon\u2019s elimination from the FIFA U-20 Women\u2019s World Cup in Colombia.<\/p>\n

FECAFOOT Reacts Strongly<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

In an official statement released on January 14, 2026, FECAFOOT rejected CAF\u2019s decision, describing it as unfair and lacking sufficient evidence.<\/p>\n

The Cameroonian Football Federation has taken note of Decision No. DC23312 rendered on January 14, 2026, by the Disciplinary Jury of the Confederation of African Football, in connection with alleged failures that occurred during the Morocco\u2013Cameroon match.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Federation notes that this decision, which led to a suspension of four (4) matches and a fine of twenty thousand (20,000) US dollars, is without any explicit justification.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

FECAFOOT further criticized the disciplinary process, raising concerns over procedural fairness.<\/p>\n

FECAFOOT also notes that the expedited procedure leading to this decision raises serious reservations regarding the fundamental requirements of a fair trial.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The federation reaffirmed its support for Eto\u2019o and emphasized its commitment to transparency and justice.<\/p>\n
