Cameroon\u2019s football leadership has reached a decisive turning point: Marc Brys will not coach the Indomitable Lions at the next Africa Cup of Nations, kick442.com have learned through people close to the coach who have informed him of the situation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

For the first time in months, FECAFOOT and the Ministry of Sports\u2014two bodies that have been in open conflict over Brys\u2019 appointment and authority\u2014have reached a rare moment of agreement. Both sides now support ending the Belgian\u2019s tenure ahead of AFCON 2025.<\/p>\n

Those familiar with the developments describe the sudden unity between the two institutions as \u201cregrettable but necessary,\u201d given the depth of the crisis surrounding the national team.<\/p>\n

The decision follows an unprecedented period of tension between FECAFOOT president Samuel Eto\u2019o and the Minister of Sports, who imposed Brys into the job earlier this year despite the federation\u2019s objections.<\/p>\n

We understand the working relationship between Brys and FECAFOOT deteriorated steadily over the months, reaching a point where reconciliation was impossible.<\/p>\n

Cameroon\u2019s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup stands as the most significant factor behind the shift in position. For a footballing nation with Cameroon\u2019s pedigree, missing out on the World Cup is viewed as a major sporting failure and an indictment of Brys\u2019 leadership.<\/p>\n

But the problems ran deeper.<\/p>\n

Some players have reportedly fell out with Brys, with some refusing to honour national team call-ups due to personal or professional disagreements with the coach. This led to a fractured dressing room, diminished morale, and a loss of cohesion that became increasingly visible during competitive matches. Although contractually protected, Brys\u2019 departure is now considered a formality. He is not expected to lead Cameroon into another major tournament.<\/p>\n

Cameroon have been drawn into a difficult AFCON group alongside Gabon, C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire, and Ghana \u2014 three teams with significant tournament pedigree and strong competitive histories against the Indomitable Lions.<\/p>\n

The draw adds further urgency to the coaching transition. The next manager must quickly rebuild cohesion, re-establish tactical clarity, and prepare a united squad capable of navigating one of the toughest pools in the competition.<\/p>\n

In the coming days, Cameroon will focus on three key tasks:
\n\u2022 Appointing a new coach,
\n\u2022 Reintegrating players who distanced themselves under Brys, and
\n\u2022 Rebuilding team harmony ahead of AFCON.<\/p>\n

Repairing fractured relationships will be crucial. Several players who fell out with the outgoing coach are expected to return once the change is official, giving the new manager a broader pool of committed talent.<\/p>\n

FECAFOOT must also resolve the legal and financial aspects of Brys\u2019 exit, including the settlement of his remaining contractual obligations.<\/p>\n

With AFCON fast approaching, the federation and the Ministry of Sports must finally work in full synchrony after months of division, presenting a united front as Cameroon enters a critical phase of preparation.<\/p>\n
