{"id":25038,"date":"2025-10-24T16:35:31","date_gmt":"2025-10-24T16:35:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kick442.com\/?p=25038"},"modified":"2025-10-25T07:31:42","modified_gmt":"2025-10-25T07:31:42","slug":"gael-bigirimana-reveals-how-scam-cost-him-life-savings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kick442.com\/fr\/gael-bigirimana-reveals-how-scam-cost-him-life-savings\/","title":{"rendered":"Gael Bigirimana reveals how scam cost him life savings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Angu Lesley Ngwa Akonwi<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Football Writer,kick442.com-Cameroon<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Former Newcastle United and Coventry City midfielder Gael Bigirimana has opened up on a painful chapter in his life after losing his entire savings to a financial scam that left him and his family devastated.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Burundi international, who now plays for Northern Irish club Dungannon Swifts, shared how what seemed like a promising investment turned out to be a Ponzi scheme that \u201cdrained\u201d everything he had worked for.<\/p>\n<p>Bigirimana joined Newcastle United from Coventry in 2012 after being named EFL Apprentice of the Year, and went on to make 26 first-team appearances for the Magpies \u2014 scoring a memorable long-range goal against Wigan Athletic in the Premier League.<\/p>\n<p>However, his career took several unexpected turns after leaving St James\u2019 Park, including an ill-fated trial opportunity in Croatia that fell through at the last moment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was waiting to board a flight at Birmingham Airport and rang the coach to ask if somebody would be waiting at the other end,\u201d Bigirimana recalled.<br \/>\n\u201cHe told me not to come because they had a game the previous day and a striker got injured. They wanted to see if it was long-term or short-term. If it was long-term, they would prioritise a striker.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That disappointment was followed by an even greater personal setback during the COVID-19 pandemic. Acting on advice from an agent, Bigirimana invested heavily in what was described as a high-yield scheme \u2014 only to later discover it was fraudulent.<\/p>\n<p>&gt; \u201cThere was no continuity. After a few months there was no payment,\u201d he explained. \u201cThen it was all like, \u2018we\u2019re going to pay you next month, there\u2019s a misunderstanding\u2019. Then the communication dried up. We learned from the mistake. Our faith gave us perspective.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Now aged 32, Bigirimana has rebuilt his career in Northern Ireland, where he has become a key figure for Dungannon Swifts, making over 80 appearances since joining two years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the setbacks, the Burundian midfielder says his faith and family have helped him regain stability and focus both on and off the pitch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was tough, but I\u2019ve come through stronger,\u201d he added. \u201cEverything that happened taught me to be wiser \u2014 not just as a footballer, but as a person.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Copyright\u00a92025 kick442.com-Cameroon<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>All rights reserved.
