Another non-kept Orlando Pirates secret has been revealed: the Bucs have signed Marou Souaibou from Cameroon outfit Cotonsport of Garoua. The Cameroon club will receive a $200k fee plus 20% next transfer fee, and he has signed a new, a deal to stay in Johannesburg till June 2025.<\/p>\n
Marou was Pirates’ primary target this mid season as kick442.com reported on multiple occasions before it was announced this Thursday.<\/p>\n
\u201cOrlando Pirates Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Souaibou Marou from Coton Sport,” The Bucs wrote on Twitter before adding that;<\/p>\n
\u201cThe 22-year-old has secured a deal that will see him at the Club until 2025.<\/p>\n
\u201cMarou comes to South Africa on the back of a five-year stint with his former club, Coton Sport, winning two league titles in the process, including Player of the Season award in 2022.\u201d<\/p>\n
During his three seasons at Cotonsport Souaibou scored 38 goals, 12 assists in 74 appearances.<\/p>\n
Pirates will hope he can keep that record up in South Africa and add plenty of goals to the Bucs in the next few years.<\/p>\n
This season the club only scored 12 goals in 15 games. Souaibou should solve that problem as during his time at Cotonsport he scored goals in the teens twice. However he arrives South Africa for his first experience abroad.<\/p>\n
Jose Riveiro and Pirates officials are taking a calculated risk that he will keep his production high while in the colors of the nine-time champions.<\/p>\n
Marou is a great signing for the Bucs. The Cameroon international is an immediate upgrade over what the Gunners got up top since the start of the current DSTV Premiership season from Eva Nga and co.<\/p>\n
He should provide a good portion of the additional goals the club needs and open up space for the rest of the Pirates attackers by drawing more attention through the wings (and, you know, actually getting into the box).<\/p>\n
Besides his exploits at Cotonsport, Souaibou has represented Cameroon at the Olympic, Intermediate and senior national team categories. The current armband bearer of Cameroon\u2019s Olympic team was part of the indomitable Lions squad that played the 2022 FIFA World cup in Qatar.<\/p>\n
If all go as planned, including the acquisition of a work permit the 2022 Cameroon footballer of the year could make his debut for his new club on Sunday against Stellenbosch.<\/p>\n
