Guinea are absent from the seventh edition of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship, CHAN, in Algeria but their amazing run in 2021 in Cameroon remains a source of inspiration.<\/p>\n
Senegal eliminated Guinea in the running to the 2022 event happening now in Algeria and won the opener against Ivory Coast.<\/p>\n
The Teranga Lions dare into the territory of dreaming of obtaining back-to-back wins this Wednesday against Uganda in the second group B fixture which Thiaw believes will be difficult but they are inspired by Guinea’s past.<\/p>\n
”Guinea finished third in the last CHAN and it is a motivation for us.<\/p>\n
“Uganda has an ambitious team. They are aggressive especially on the set pieces and second balls. We are expecting a difficult battle against Uganda and are prepared for it. We are outsiders. We accept and work to change the situation,” Thiaw during pre-match press conference.<\/p>\n
Both sides are still in with a chance to make it to quarter final of the tournament this time around especially if they pick up a win in their second outing.<\/p>\n
Thiaw who masterminded the return of Senegal to the CHAN for the first time since 2011 have a full complement of players for the game despite echoes earlier about an injury to a key midfielder earlier on.<\/p>\n
“Djibril Diarra lost a tooth and we have replaced it. He needs to rest. He will train today. Other players in the squad are lively and fit”.<\/p>\n
Pape also thank his country’s FA led by Augustine Senghor for the efforts to make the country’s football great again.<\/p>\n
“We must thank the Senegalese Football Federation for good preparations prior to the tournament. We are performing well because of the preparations we had,” Thiaw capped it.<\/p>\n
