The Cameroon government has taken over the debt owed by the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) to former coach Antonio Concei\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This decision contained in a press release on Friday February 21, aims to prevent Cameroon’s suspension from FIFA and CAF competitions due to non-payment of indemnities following Concei\u00e7\u00e3o’s wrongful termination.<\/p>\n

It reads;<\/p>\n

“With a view to preserving the brand image of Cameroonian football and in the face of threats of suspension of Cameroon from FIFA and CAF competitions, the State has chosen to replace FECAFOOT in the case opposing it to the former coach-selector of the Indomitable Lions, Mr. Antonio CONCEI\u00c7\u00c3O DA SILVA OLIVEIRA”<\/p>\n

The debt amounts to approximately \u20ac1,850,895.89 (1,212,336,810 CFA francs), which includes compensations and penalties for Concei\u00e7\u00e3o and some assistants<\/p>\n

This intervention follows multiple rulings against FECAFOOT by FIFA’s Player Status Committee, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), and the Swiss Federal Court, with the latest warning issued in December 2024 .<\/p>\n

The government’s action reflects its commitment to preserving Cameroonian football’s image as announced by the president in his february 10 speech to the Youths.<\/p>\n

This is not the first instance where the government has intervened in such cases. Clarence Seedorf is another example where similar issues arose due to wrongful termination claims against FECAFOOT These interventions highlight concerns about FECAFOOT’s management practices and financial responsibilities.<\/p>\n
