Indomitable Lions of Cameroon duo Carlos Baleba Noom Quomah of Brighton and Hove Albion and Andre Onana Onana of Manchester United have been nominated for the 2024 African Young player of the year and goalkeeper of the year respectively following the release of the nominees this Thursday evening via CAF social media handles.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Baleba who has been a sensation this season, winning the Brighton player of the month award on two occasions and Onana who has been named player of the month and has helped Cameroon qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with relative ease will be hoping to end Cameroon’s long wait for an individual trophy.<\/p>\n

Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman (27), Paris Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi (25), and Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba (25) have all been named among the ten finalists for the 2024 African Player of the Year award.<\/p>\n

According to the list released by the Confederation of African Football, the trio will vie for the prestigious award at the CAF Awards ceremony set to take place in Morocco on December 16.<\/p>\n

Other nominees include Nigeria’s stand-in captain William Troost-Ekong, the MVP of this year\u2019s Africa Cup of Nations, Algeria\u2019s Amine Gouiri (Rennes), Cote d’Ivoire\u2019s Simon Adingra (Brighton & Hove Albion), and Guinea\u2019s Serhou Guirassy, who plays for Borussia Dortmund.<\/p>\n

Rounding out the list are South Africa\u2019s Ronwen Williams (Mamelodi Sundowns), Morocco\u2019s Soufiane Rahimi (Al Ain), and DR Congo\u2019s Chancel Mbemba (Olympique Marseille).<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, reigning African Player of the Year Victor Osimhen did not make the shortlist, nor did Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface, despite his pivotal role in the club’s Bundesliga victory and their Europa League final appearance.<\/p>\n

CAF further clarified that the awards will recognize performances from the period between January 2024 and October 2024.<\/p>\n

The finalists for the Goalkeeper of the Year category include South Africa’s Ronwen Williams (Mamelodi Sundowns), Nigeria\u2019s Stanley Nwabali (Chippa United), Cameroon\u2019s Andre Onana (Manchester United), DR Congo\u2019s Lionel Mpasi (Rodez AF), Tunisia\u2019s Amanallah Memmiche (Esperance), Algeria\u2019s Oussama Benbot (USM Alger), Egypt\u2019s Mostafa Shobeir (Al Ahly), Mali\u2019s Djigui Diarra (Young Africans), C\u00f4te d’Ivoire\u2019s Yahia Fofana (Angers), and Morocco\u2019s Munir El Kajoui (RS Berkane).<\/p>\n

Williams will be aiming for a hat-trick of awards, as he is also nominated for CAF\u2019s Interclub Player of the Year. He is joined by Algeria\u2019s Oussama Benbot (USM Alger), Burkina Faso\u2019s Issoufou Dayo (RS Berkane), Egypt\u2019s Ahmed Sayed ‘Zizo’ (Zamalek), Egypt\u2019s Hussein El Shahat (Al Ahly), Egypt\u2019s Mostafa Shobeir (Al Ahly), Ghana\u2019s Abdul Aziz Issah (Dreams FC), Ghana\u2019s John Antwi (Dreams FC), Tunisia\u2019s Amanallah Memmiche (Esperance), and Tunisia\u2019s Yassine Merriah (Esperance Sportive).<\/p>\n

The shortlist for the Men’s National Team of the Year includes reigning African champions C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire, along with Nigeria, Angola, Burkina Faso, DR Congo, Morocco, Mozambique, South Africa, Sudan, and Uganda.<\/p>\n

The Coach of the Year shortlist features Pedro Goncalves (Angola), Brahima Traore (Burkina Faso), Emerse Fae (C\u00f4te d’Ivoire), Sebastien Desabre (DR Congo), Jose Gomes (Zamalek), Marcel Koller (Al Ahly), Chiquinho Conde (Mozambique), Hugo Broos (South Africa), Florent Ibenge (Al Hilal), and Kwesi Appiah (Sudan).<\/p>\n

Petro Atletico (Angola), TP Mazembe (DR Congo), Al Ahly (Egypt), Zamalek (Egypt), Dreams FC (Ghana), RS Berkane (Morocco), Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), Simba (Tanzania), Young Africans (Tanzania), and Esperance Sportive de Tunis (Tunisia) will compete for the Men’s Club of the Year honours.<\/p>\n
