The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has approved the Cameroon Football Federation’s (FECAFOOT) request to move the country’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier game against Namibia next month from the Japoma Omnisport stadium in Douala to the Roumde Adja stadium.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The decision was arrived at following a meeting between CAF and the concerned member associations late last week to deliberate on the issue provoked by the unbelievability of the initial infrastructure due to meteorological challenges.<\/p>\n

Following a meeting summoned by Minister Narcissise Mouelle Kombi, he asked FECAFOOT to inform CAF of the availability of the Amadou Ahidjo Stadium for the game, but surprisingly FECAFOOT have reached out stating CAF has picked the Roumde Adja stadium instead.<\/p>\n

A note sent to minister by Samuel Eto’o Fils of FECAFOOT this August 26 read as follows;<\/p>\n

“Making available the Roumd\u00e9-Adja Omnisports Stadium in Garoua and its Annexes for the benefit of the Cameroon Football Federation dear administrator ONIES
\nFollowing CAF’s approval to reschedule the CAMEROON vs. NAMIBIA match at the Roumde Adjia Stadium this Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 5:00 PM (local time), and with the agreement of the Namibian Football Federation following the inspections of the Ahmadou Ahidjo and Roumde Adja Stadiums conducted by CAF on Saturday, August 24, and Sunday, August 25, 2024, as part of the qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025.<\/p>\n

“The Cameroon Football Federation requests the use of the Roumd\u00e9-Adjia Omnisports Stadium to host the Cameroon vs. Namibia match, which was initially scheduled at the Japoma Stadium in Douala on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 5:00 PM (local time), counting for the first matchday. In connection with this international match, I also request the use of the Roumd\u00e9-Adjia annex stadium for the training sessions of Cameroon’s national A team on September 3, 4, 5, and 6, 2024, approximately four (04) training sessions, and the Cenajes annex stadium for the training session of Namibia’s national A team, approximately one training session.”<\/p>\n

“To this end, I await the pro forma invoice in order to pay the fees related to the material organization of this match.”<\/p>\n

Wherever it is played, the Namibia game on September 7 game will mark the start of the AFCON 2925 qualifiers. Historically, both teams are familiar foes, with Cameroon seeking redemption after a 2-1 defeat to Namibia in the 2023 qualifiers. The last encounter at home ended in a 1-1 draw in Yaound\u00e9, featuring goals from Peter Shalulile and Olivier Kemen.<\/p>\n

Cameroon faces injury challenges, notably losing Faris Moumbagna to a severe knee injury, while Moumi Ngamaleu is also sidelined.<\/p>\n

Despite these setbacks, coach Marc Brys has a strong squad, including Bryan Mbeumo, who recently scored for Brentford, and Andre Onana, who kept a clean sheet for Manchester United.<\/p>\n

The Indomitable Lions will convene for training starting September 1, with the final squad announcement expected soon.<\/p>\n
