The Disciplinary Board of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has slammed a fine of $200k on president Samuel Eto’o Fils of the Cameroon Football federation (FECAFOOT) for signing a partnership with betting giants 1XBet while stating they have not found enough evidence to sanction him for match-fixing and manipulation.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The decision released this Tuesday stated that Eto’o breached FIFA ethics by becoming brand Ambassador for 1XBet and so has been sanctioned to the tune of 125 millions FCFA.<\/p>\n

The release from the CAF Communications department read as follows;<\/p>\n

“The Conf\u00e9d\u00e9ration Africaine de Football (\u201cCAF\u201d) Disciplinary Board sat on the matter of F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Camerounaise de Football (\u2018\u2019FECAFOOT\u2019\u2019) President Mr Samuel Eto\u2019o Fils.<\/p>\n

“Mr Eto\u2019o was facing charges of alleged manipulation of football matches and violating the principles of ethics and integrity.”<\/p>\n

“The Disciplinary Board ruled that as it stands, there is insufficient proof to find Mr Samuel Eto’o Fils and Mr Valentin Nkwain guilty of match manipulation.<\/p>\n

“However, the Disciplinary Board found Mr Eto’o to have seriously violated the principles of ethics, integrity and sportsmanship as provided in Article 2 paragraph 3 of the CAF Statutes by signing a Brand Ambassador contract with the company 1XBET in exchange for remuneration and consequently fined Mr Eto\u2019o an amount of 200,000 USD.”<\/p>\n

Everything being equal, Eto’o who signed a contract to earn 300 millions FCFA from the betting franchise will annul the deal and gladly take this fine as he and his followers had fear for worst.<\/p>\n
