{"id":16521,"date":"2024-04-16T21:48:20","date_gmt":"2024-04-16T21:48:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kick442.com\/?p=16521"},"modified":"2024-04-17T01:06:35","modified_gmt":"2024-04-17T01:06:35","slug":"samuel-etoo-plays-victim-before-match-fixing-hearing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kick442.com\/fr\/samuel-etoo-plays-victim-before-match-fixing-hearing\/","title":{"rendered":"Samuel Eto\u2019o plays victim before match-fixing hearing"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Cameroon football federation (FECAFOOT) president\u2019s lawyers lodge complaint with FIFA<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>They claim CAF general secretary has breached FIFA ethics code<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Samuel Eto\u2019o, the president of the Cameroon football federation (FECAFOOT) has accused the Confederation of African Football\u2019s (CAF&#8217;s) general secretary of several breaches of FIFA\u2019s code of ethics during the investigation into allegations that he was involved in match-fixing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Guardian understands that Eto\u2019o\u2019s lawyers have lodged a complaint with world football\u2019s governing body alleging that V\u00e9ron Mosengo-Omba opened the investigation to create \u201cnegative publicity\u201d about the former Barcelona striker, who has been president of FECAFOOT since December 2021.<\/p>\n<p>In August CAF opened an investigation after it said it had \u201creceived written statements from several Cameroonian football stakeholders to look into and investigate certain alleged improper conduct by Mr Samuel Eto\u2019o\u201d. Those are believed to have included allegations that he was involved in match-fixing after a recording of Eto\u2019o speaking to someone alleged to be the president of a Cameroonian club, was made public.<\/p>\n<p>Eto\u2019o\u2019s lawyers have insisted the recording provides no evidence of match-fixing and questioned its legality. They said their complaint to Fifa claimed that Mosengo-Omba wash instrumental in initiating a media campaign against Eto\u2019o and accused Mosengo-Omba of breaking various parts of Fifa\u2019s ethics code including defamation, an \u201cattack on physical and moral integrity\u201d and abuse of power, as well as a violation rules of general conduct and the duty of confidentiality.<\/p>\n<p>We have been able to identify some of the individuals who contributed to this situation, in particular the secretary-general,\u201d Eto\u2019o\u2019s lawyer, Antoine Vey, told the Guardian. \u201cIt\u2019s him we are mentioning in our complaint. We have questions about who recorded that tape and for what purpose.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr Eto\u2019o doesn\u2019t recognise taking part in a conversation in which he obviously talks about corruption. If you listen to the tape, he is trying to reassure a club president about some issues he is having; he says it will be dealt with but he doesn\u2019t say it was by illegal means or anything like that. We don\u2019t really see what the point of the tape is. It doesn\u2019t have much to do with procedure and is just a part of a campaign to undermine Eto\u2019o\u2019s reputation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eto\u2019o\u2019s lawyers say their attempts to contact Caf to arrange a hearing date were ignored. They claim it was not until they lodged their complaint with Fifa that they were given a date, with Eto\u2019o\u2019s hearing scheduled to take place on Wednesday. That falls outside regulations in Caf\u2019s disciplinary code that say any investigation should \u201cnot exceed six months\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe that this investigation is based on nothing and it was only opened to create some negative publicity about Mr Eto\u2019o,\u201d Vey said. \u201cWe don\u2019t accept the way they have been acting. If you take the chronology we don\u2019t understand why it [the hearing] is happening now and it didn\u2019t happen in August. We can also see that people are using this kind of procedural nonsense to create fake news about him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CAF and FIFA did not respond to the Guardian\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Eto\u2019o\u2019s future as Fecafoot\u2019s president will be in doubt regardless of the outcome of his hearing after his attempt to resign was rejected by its executive committee in February after the Africa Cup of Nations defeat by Nigeria.
