<\/p>\nOne of the pioneers of women’s football in Nigeria, Elder Eddington Najite Kuejubola has dedicated his latest award to the players of Police Machine that had an accident back in 1996.<\/p>\n
The players and officials of Police Machine had an accident on their way to prosecute Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership games against Rivers Angels on October 11, 1996.<\/p>\n
After receiving his award for women’s football pioneers at the 2024 Sportsville Award on Friday, he dedicated his award to the players.<\/p>\n
“I dedicate this award to the Late Mariam Babangida and the Police Machine girls who had an accident on 11 October 1996 on their way to play Rivers Angels. Some of these girls died on duty playing the game of football.” He commented.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Kuejubola alongside three others, the Late Larry Eze (Rivers Angels), Princess Bola Jegede (Jegede Babes), and Chris Abisuga (Golden Wonder FC) were the early pioneers of women’s football in the country.<\/p>\n
His passion for the game led to the formation of Ufuoma Babes Football Club where the likes of Florence Omagbemi, Patience Avre, Mercy Akide, and Mavis Oguns played<\/p>\n
Others who passed through the mill of Ufuoma Babes were Uche Eucharia, Ann Mukoro, Sarah Okotie, and Phoebe Ebiemekumo, among other footballers who went on to adorn the colours of Nigeria.<\/p>\n
Today, Kuejubola’s passion for the game is still as strong as ever – taking interest in the nation’s progress in women’s football.<\/p>\n
“I will continue to do anything to advance the cause of women’s football as long as God soares my life.” He stated.<\/p>\n
