The head of Cameroon’s U-20 Women’s team, Hassan Ibrahim Balla has expressed happiness about the result but remains frustrated about his team’s performance following a 2-0 win against Central Africa Republic in the opening game of the 2023 Central African Football Federation Union (UNIFFAC) women’s U-20 Championship in Douala.<\/strong><\/p>\n

ANAFOOT graduates Mbiandji Susie and Nana Oceanne scored two first-half goals as Cameroon manoeuvred their way to the first three points of the competition in a game Central Africa Republic was unlucky not to get at least a goal.<\/p>\n

Reacting after the game and in preparations for their second outing on Wednesday, against Congo Republic, coach Hassan assured the public while expressing his disatisfaction.<\/p>\n

“I am happy about the result but not happy about the performance today. We scored early in the first segment, it was about putting the game to bed as soon as possible with more goals but it wasn’t to be. That made the rest of the game complicated,” coach Hassan began.<\/p>\n

“We have to work on our finishing through our discussion with the players theoretically because there’s no time to train.<\/p>\n

“We tried our best to try to score in the second segment but it was difficult and like I said before it sometimes depends on the physiognomy of the game. A team can lose 0-10 today and become difficult to beat in the next game.<\/p>\n

“The problem we had is we didn’t have time to work. If we had two or three days to work together, it could have been completely different, but be reassured it’s going to be different against Congo.<\/p>\n

“We will try our best to work on our weaknesses and try to build on our collectivity to better going forward,”<\/p>\n

Cameroon is World Cup bound and using the tournament as a dress rehearsal of the tournament and coach Balla was full of praises for his opponent despite the defeat.<\/p>\n

“Our opponents came to resist. We missed a number of chances in the first-half and as the game advanced they became more confident and that made it more interesting,” coach Balla added before highlighting the aspect they must improve against Congo.<\/p>\n

“We will need to improve on our finishing. The players panicked in the final third today. We have to work to restore their calm going into the next game.”<\/p>\n

Cameroon will complete their participation in the tournament on Wednesday with their second outing against Congo expected to be a first decider.<\/p>\n

Wednesday’s 3:30pm kick-off will be Congo’s first outing of the competition and could blow the competition wide open if the Congolese get the better of their host.<\/p>\n
