Players of Cameroon top-flight champions in the year 2000, Fovu of Baham staged a camping boycott on Friday as a response to management’s reluctance to pay their salaries and other bonuses despite numerous threats to go on strike.<\/p>\n
kick442.com understands the players who were supposed to be in camp last night in preparations for their Matchday 11 game against visiting Fauve Azur Elite this Saturday failed to show up at the camping ground.<\/p>\n
This comes a month after kick442.com received a document from the players threatening to go on strike for two months unpaid salaries and part of their sign on bonus.<\/p>\n
Last month we made attempts to get comments or and official reaction from the club but it proved futile.<\/p>\n
We understand the club’s president Dieudonne Kamdem, like his peers received a portion of the annual grants from the Federation and the government before the start of the season.
\nUnfortunately going by the average expenditure of a modest club, the cash should be exhausted by now.<\/p>\n
Fovu’s last victory in the Elite One championship was a 1-0 triumph against YOSA of Bamenda on November 13 – days before the World Cup recess. Though there’s no scientific evidence that results are directly linked to this situation, it is evident the players are not as motivated as it was in the beginning.<\/p>\n
Since the championship resumed two weeks ago, the Yongwa have lost all two matches. As a matter of fact they only won once in the past seven matches, thus highlighting the internal cracks at the club.<\/p>\n
It remains to be seen if captain Arsene Mbe and his mates will honor today’s fixture against Fauve Azur Elite, a side that has been struggling to get results though their players are paid regularly.<\/p>\n
Despite the much heralded improvement in welfare of Cameroon based footballer, the reality on ground leaves much to be desired.<\/p>\n
