After the ugly incident that marred Morocco’s 1-1 draw with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in the group stage of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire, the Federation of Royal Moroccan Football (FRMF) has issued a statement pertaining to fracas.<\/p>\n
There were heated exchange of words between Morocco\u2019s coach Walid Regragui and the DR Congo captain, Chancel Mbemba.<\/p>\n
Mbemba left the pitch following a knock in the dying moments of the match but could not return immediately as the referee continued the game.<\/p>\n
The Olympique Marseille centre-back was left fuming before the referee\u2019s final whistle as the Leopards held on to draw with the Atlas Lions.<\/p>\n
Following the end of the game, the defender and Regragui were involved in a heated argument and had to be separated by officials.<\/p>\n
Given this inceidence, the FRMF has released a statement.<\/p>\n
“Following the controversies follozing the Morocco 1-1 draw, FRMF wishes to make the following clarifcations. Reminder of the particular and historical relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Democratic Republic of Congo as well as the fraternal ties between the peoples of the two countries,” the statement reads.<\/p>\n
“Exceptional cooperation relationship between the FRMF and the Congolese Federation (FECOFA), the number of Congolese players playing in Morocco and the existing football exchanges between the two federations are the real testimony to this.<\/p>\n
“Deplore without being in the logic of the accusation all the anti-sporting acts that followed this match.<\/p>\n
“The President of the FRMF Fauzi Lekjaa was the first to congratulate the coach of the Congo team Sebastien Desabre, reflecting the state of mind of the selection that manifested itself throughout the match. Moreover, the Moroccan player Achraf Hakimi attended the care of the Congolese player Henoc Inonga Baka.<\/p>\n
“By providing these clatrifications, the FRMF reiterates its commitment to the values of good conduct, ethics, and fairplay and considerzs that these facts will only strengthen the fraternal links between the two countries.” The statement concludes.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has launched an investigation against Royal Moroccan Football Federation (\u201cFRMF\u201d) and Congolese Association Football Federation (\u201cFECOFA\u201d following post-match incidents during the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cote d\u2019Ivoire 2023 fixture between Morocco and Democratic Republic of Congo.<\/p>\n
CAF will not make any further comment on this matter until the investigation is complete.<\/p>\n
