The Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia shared points in a tightly contested match that ended one goal on either side.<\/p>\n
The first goal of the game came in the 23rd minute of the first half. After a poor clearance by DR Congo’s goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi, forward Kings Kangwa opened the scoring for Zambia.<\/p>\n
It took just a few minutes for DR Congo to level the scores as Yoane Wissa found the back of the net for DR Congo, equalizing the game in the 28th minute thanks to a Cedric Bakambu assist.<\/p>\n
Bakambu then squandered a chance of his own after the break, blazing over the bar from inside the box, before Arthur Masuaku had a shot saved.<\/p>\n
That was the first of a string of second half chances for the Leopards, who also thought they had a penalty when Tandi Mwape was penalised for a handball in the area, only for VAR to overturn the decision.<\/p>\n
Wissa, Theo Bongonda and Simon Banza were guilty of failing to convert further openings, before Silas Katompa Mvumpa scooped over an empty net in injury time as DR Congo were forced to settle for a point.<\/p>\n
The two-time champions, who last lifted the trophy in 1974, were the dominant force throughout, but their 24 shooting opportunities yielded just one goal.<\/p>\n
